SEANATOR ADEOLA YAYI @ 51 WITH 17 YEARS UNBROKEN LEGISLATIVE EXPERIENCE BY ADEGBOKIKI IBRAHEEM

With his Spartan brilliance, his meticulous attention to details sets him apart from others.

Senator Solomon Adéọlá Olamilekan Yayi is one of the frontliners in Nigeria's political landscape. Yayi, as he's fondly called is a Yewa born Politician from Isaga, and his ancestor established a dormain at Agbo ile Elemo Oníbàtá, Agọ Isaga in Pahayi, Ilaro, the capital of 4 Local Government areas of Yewaland, Yewa South Local Government area of Ogun State.

His Royal Majesty, Ọba Kehinde Olugbenle, Paramount ruler of Yewaland affirmed Yayi as one of his sons in Ilaro, according to historical records from the palace.

Senator Adéọlá YAYI was born on August 10, 1969 to the family of Mr. Ayinde Abdul-gafar Adeola Ogunleye and Madam Abeni Olasunbo Ogunleye (nee Akinola) at the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola’s family background could be summarily traced to Pahayi -Ilaro, Joga Orile, Isaga Orile, Itoku - Kemta all in Ogun State, Nigeria.

Adéọlá Yayi is the distinguished Senator representing the largest Senatorial district in Nigeria, the Lagos West, traversing 10 Local Government Areas (37 LCDAs) of over 13 million people.

He started his education at the State Primary School, Alimosho in Lagos State, and he later proceeded to Community Grammar School, Akowonjo, Lagos for his secondary education, and to Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo state where he bagged the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting. Yayi became a Chartered Accountant at a relatively young age and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation as well as a Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).
He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Nigeria.

Solomon Adeola’s working experience started with the famous Guardian Newspapers Limited, where he worked for almost 12 years and rose to the position of an Accountant. He resigned from “The Guardian” and proceeded to Olatunji Omoyeni & Co, a chartered accounting firm, where he led the audit team for several years and was later promoted to the position of a Senior Auditor.

Solomon Adeola later established his own company, SOOTEM Nigeria Limited, He became the Managing director and the Chief Executive Officer of the firm that specialized in tax consultancy until he ventured into politics.

Senator Adeola pitched his tent with the progressive arm of Nigerian politics by joining the then Social Democratic Party (SDP). He was nominated and won the primary of the then ruling Alliance for Democracy, AD and was subsequently elected as a member to represent Alimosho State Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2007 to 2011.

A man of immense financial and political skills, the ever vibrant and dynamic Olamilekan was appointed the Chairman of Finance Committee and Joint Chairman of Appropriation Committee of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In that position, he was reputed to be instrumental to the enactment of the law that strengthened the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service and freed it from the state’s Ministry of Finance. The legislation and reforms laid the foundation that catapulted the revenue of the state from N5billion monthly to over N20billion.

He was also part of the legislative team that passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act and the Public Procurement Act of Lagos State, two laws that saw Lagos State qualifying to access developmental funds from international financial bodies like World Bank. It is an undisputed fact that Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi can claim credit as part of the architects of the widely acclaimed recent development in Lagos State through the provision of legislative enactments and support for the executive arm of the state government in his 8 years successful tenure as a state parliamentarian.

Like the proverbial hunter who always performs statutory customary sacrifices after killing big games, Solomon was and still is a toast of many in Alimosho area of Lagos State and a major of the political force in the area because of his enviable antecedents and the grandeur performances he often displays in assignments given to him as far as representing his people is concerned. He is one representative of the people that had set high standard for effective representation in popular democracy. A pointer to this is the ineffable way he has won elections and represented the people of the area repeatedly since 2003. He is noted for his numerous personal and constituency projects in Alimosho and the entire Lagos West. The people of Alimosho can never forget his developmental initiatives in the area of provision of water through boreholes, provision of electric transformers, regular free medical programmes and rehabilitation of roads. Other areas of life changing programmes that are the hallmark of Yayi’s representation include educational empowerment and support in the form of building classrooms with ancillary facilities, annual purchase of GCE/NECO forms and tutorial for indigent students as well as ICT training at NIIT for hundreds of youths in his constituency. His philanthropy for humanitarian causes is to say the least legendary with individuals and organisations benefitting to the tune of several millions.

Through his intervention, scores of young graduates have been gainfully employed at state and Federal government agencies.
Without doubt his sterling performance in public service of Lagos State naturally made him a first choice for promotion for national service.

Solomon Adeola Yayi was nominated and elected to represent Alimosho Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives of the National Assembly in 2011, he was also elected as Senator in 2015, and re-elected in 2019. The tenure culminated in 17 years of unbroken legislative experience at both state and federal legislature.

The great philanthropist is happily married to his heartthrob, Mrs. Temitope Adeola and the union is blessed with children.
