ADAYAN WATER PROJECTS: OGUN ASSEMBLY SEEKS COMPENSATION FOR AFFECTED PROPERTY OWNERS

          In its resolve to ensure seamless delivery of infrastructural projects devoid of hardship on the people, the Ogun State House of Assembly has urged the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Water Resources and Chairman, Lagos-Adiyan Right of Way Implementation Committee Project, Engr. Kunle Otun to engage his Lagos State counterpart with a view to reviewing implementation of the right of way for the construction of the Lagos State Water Works project, Phase II situated at Adiyan and provision of compensation to all affected property owners in Ogun State.

          The State House of Assembly's Committee on Water Resources, Energy, Oil and Gas led by Hon. Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye, made the appeal during a strategic meeting with the Special Adviser on Water Resouurces at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

             Oladunjoye, in company of other lawmakers, sought for the swift intervention of the State Government to immediately ensure more compasionate reduction on the right of way from the existing 55 metres width along the 8km stretch of the project, with due consideration and timely compensation for residents and business owners, whose properties would pave way for the construction of the projects.

            In his remarks, Engr. Otun explained that the parcel of land ceded to Lagos State Government and those acquired by government for the water project decades ago, were gazetted in 1991, and had been encroached upon illegally by the present occupants. He added that the Right of Way was iniatially 120metres width at the stage of documentation which had been reduced to 55metres on compassionate ground by government to reduce the effect on the illegal occupiers.

               He assured that the right of way would be implemented for the project with human face, as the affected property owners had been enumerated by the State Bureau of Lands for prompt payment of compensation with easy access to portable water by the residents of Matogun, Oke-aro, Mudasiru, Greenland, Baale, Alausa and its environs.

               Promising that the committee would further engage the representatives of the affected people in the implementation process of the project, the Special Adviser assured that the State Water Corporation would improve on its operations to ensure access to portable water across the State.
